Institutional Background. NME and KERRANG!

NME

NME (the New musical Express) is a very popular magazine in the UK, being published weekly since March 1952. In November of 1952, it included a singles chart, and was the first British paper to do so. By the 70’s it was the best selling British music magazine. It became closely associated with punk rock through the writing of Tony Parsons and Julie Burchill. Murison took over the magazines and became the first female editor in September 2009.

NME Tour; NME sponsors a tour of the United Kingdom by up-and-coming bands each year.
NME Awards; NME Awards is an awards show held every year to celebrate the best new music of the past year. The nominations and eventual winners are voted for by the readers of the magazine.


KERRANG!

Kerrang! is a rock music magazine published by Bauer Consumer Media in the United Kingdom weekly. The magazine is edited by Nichola Browne as the very first issue of Kerrang! Was June 6th 1981. The magazine's name is onomatopoeic and refers to the sound made when playing a power chord on an electric guitar. The genre of the music magazine is British heavy metal. It is published in the UK, Australia and Spain. Kerrang! First became successful in 2000 when the metal genre when more popular bands started featurng in the magazine such as Foo Fighters and Metallica.
